The Portuguese airline intends to double its operation in North America in the coming years.
TAP intends to double its operation in North America in the coming years and has just announced new flights to Chicago and Washington for June 2019. The Portuguese airline thus expands its network of destinations in the United States, where it also has other new routes in perspective.
"We serve ten of the main Brazilian cities with direct flights from Portugal and believe that it is possible to reach the same number or even exceed it in the United States. We have plans to fly to several other North American cities. The US is already our third largest market and still has a lot of growth potential. Our network of destinations in Europe and Africa also continues to grow. We currently offer 55 destinations in Europe and 17 in Africa and most of our passengers fly with TAP to destinations beyond Portugal,"Antonoaldo Neves, TAP CEO, said in a statement.
The connection between Lisbon and Chicago O'Hare begins on June 1st with five weekly flights. Flights depart from Lisbon at 01.05pm (arriving at 04:05pm on the following day) and from Chicago at 06:05am (arriving in Lisbon at 07:50am the following day).
There will be five weekly flights between Lisbon and Washington Dulles, beginning in June 16th: flights leave Lisbon at 4:30 pm (landing in the American capital at 7:40pm, the following day); in the opposite direction, departures are at 10:40pm (arriving in Lisbon at 10:50pm, the following day).
Meanwhile, TAP has announced that it will receive 19 units of the new Airbus A330-900neo by the end of next year, with modern and sophisticated equipment. This fleet growth allows increasing the airline supply and launching new routes.
