Government promotes financial support program for congresses and events in the Portuguese countryside

The Portuguese Government is launching a new program of financial support for congresses and events with more than 50 people in the countryside, Deputy Minister of Economy, Pedro Siza Vieira, told Lusa.

"This financial support will lower costs for holding events in the interior," he said. According to Pedro Siza Vieira, the program, called 'Interior +' aims to promote business tourism throughout the country, so the incentive is open to promoters of events involving more than 50 people. The minister, who recalled that Portugal is the 11th world destination in ICCA's ranking, highlighted the concern to ensure that this type of tourism reaches all the country territories. The program follows the Government's efforts to "promote tourism in the countryside". "We can not just promote the country, we have to provide reasons of interest and accommodation capacity and the 'Valorizar' program has been very successful," he explained.

Pedro Siza Vieira's expectation is that "the recent past number of congresses and events can multiply in our countryside."
