Tsogo Sun Group opens third hotel in Maputo

The South African company chose the new Baía Mall, at the Mozambican capital, as its latest location in the country.

The African group Tsogo Sun is opening a new hotel in Maputo, the capital of Mozambique, the third of its kind, under the brand name Southern Sun. The new hotel is housed inside Baía Mall project, a large shopping centre in the city, and boasts of 125 rooms, a pool and a direct connection to all services provided by the mall.

The new Southern Sun hotel was inaugurated by Filipe Jacinto Nyusi, the President of Mozambique (pictured above). At the same event, the head of state officially opened Baía Mall, a project that spans over 30.000 square metres and houses more than 100 stores, restaurants and entertainment areas. The whole venture will generate 2000 new jobs, made possible by an investment of 96 million dollars.

Tsogo Sun Goup, with its brand Southern Sun, previously owned two hotels in Maputo and one in Tete, in Mozambique. The company operates all over the African Continent, mostly in its home country, South Africa, but also in Nigeria, Kenya, Zambia and Tanzania. The group has a smaller presence in Seychelles and United Arab Emirates.

The company also boasts of 13 casinos and entertainment centres, including Montecasino, in Johannesburg.
