Departure of the historic Italian Navy sailing ship won the third BEA World Grand Prix.
Twenty years after it last sailed around the world, the emblematic Italian Navy sailing ship Amerigo Vespucci once again left port and the event that marked its departure received a fitting tribute, involving various moments and locations over two days.
Built in 1930, the Amerigo Vespucci is the oldest ship in the service of the Italian Navy and has been a school ship since June 6, 1931.
Before setting off on a two-year voyage across five continents, three oceans, 28 countries and 31 ports, the sailing ship was the star of an event seen as a strategic opportunity to represent Italy on a global scale, promote 'Made in Italy' and take the messages carried by the Amerigo Vespucci further.
The grand departure ceremony from the port of Genoa included a parade of ships around the Amerigo Vespucci and various flyovers and displays by the Italian Air Force's aerobatic team.
The highly complex event, organised by Ninetynine Srl, also included a gala dinner, local activation actions, videomapping and live television broadcasting.
The video of the initiative can be viewed here.
