Francophonie Games, a first in the history of the Democratic Republic of Congo

Organised by LEAP Creative Studio, the opening ceremony of the Francophonie Games 2023 won the second Grand Prix at BEA World.

Designing, creating and producing the opening ceremony of the Francophonie Games in Kinshasa was the job awarded to LEAP Creative Studio by Vivendi Sports, in what was the first international ceremony in the history of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The show portrayed the odyssey of two participants in the Francophonie Games, showing their journey and adventure along the Congo River and through the forests until they reached Kinshasa, the capital and largest city in the Democratic Republic of Congo, which displays a unique urban reality.

The two participants were joined by creatures and animals from the Democratic Republic of Congo reproduced in giant props and puppets, resulting in a procession of costumes and colors, made from materials found in local rubbish dumps.

The culture and reality of Kinshasa and the Democratic Republic of Congo were also demonstrated at the opening ceremony through images shown on a giant screen in the center of the stage.

Kinshasa's hellish traffic was also portrayed in the show, with the organisation integrating several yellow cabs into the choreography.
