The events industry is once again undergoing a transformation process.

According to data from the main event consultancies and associations worldwide, the industry's trends for 2024 are said to include key factors such as Sustainability, Inclusion, Personalisation and an ever-increasing use of technology. Now, with the rapid growth of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on the way to absorbing knowledge, the events industry is beginning to enter a new process of transformation.

Artificial Intelligence is a technology that is increasingly gaining ground in the events industry. With it we can analyse large amounts of data in real time and provide valuable insights for organisers, participants and brands. With AI, it's possible to personalise the attendee experience, from the choice of venue to the content presented during the event. What's more, AI can help with the logistics management of the event, controlling the crowds, managing queues and even preventing possible problems.

However, it's important to emphasise that the use of AI at events also presents ethical and legal challenges that need to be considered, such as the privacy of participants' data and questions relating to the limit of how far we can and should go when it comes to decisions made by AI. In summary, AI has the potential to revolutionise and transform the events industry, but a careful balance is needed between its benefits and risks, so that it doesn't become and dictate the end of this industry.

As event organisers, we now have access to unprecedented levels of data on participants. We can use this information to segment groups and plan activities based on interest profiles. On a more mature level, an event attendee will soon arrive at the event, enter via facial recognition, always be called by their name, not have to order their favourite drink or indicate dietary restrictions, because the system already knows all that. And if it doesn't, it will learn from your presence and record the data for the next opportunity.

In recent experiments with platforms such as ChatGPT, Contents.com and many others, it has been discovered that AI is a serious collaborator in helping to create content, visual images, texts for invitations, opening speeches, film scripts and so many other resources that until now were personified by a human resource.

With more and more data, we can expect the market to start choosing very carefully what kind of events it wants to be at and in what way. The undeniable fact is that, thanks to AI, the transformation has already begun, it's just a question of where it will take us.

We're not just talking about programming and robotics and big data processing, it's much more than that, it's about watching AI develop and wondering if the time may soon come when this ‘entity’ will be able to absorb the feeling of what it's like to stand in a queue at a concert for hours on end, in the hope of being at the front of the stage. Or the feeling of eating a ‘bifana’ in a street food shop on a big match day. Now, with facial recognition, we are already seeing the construction of diaries, networking profiles and platforms to help organise events in real time. The entire sector is thus witnessing, along with many others, the unleashing of successive events that could greatly alter our society.

Artificial intelligence is already a reality in the events and entertainment industry, bringing with it numerous advantages for clients and companies operating in the sector. However, it is important to reflect on the ethical and privacy challenges that arise with the use of AI, as well as the need to ensure that the technology is accessible and inclusive for all. In addition, it is necessary to be aware of the possible socio-economic consequences that the adoption of AI could bring to the industry and to society as a whole. The future of the events and entertainment industry will certainly be influenced by artificial intelligence, but it's up to us to decide how we use it to build a fairer and more sustainable world.
