Organised by fischerAppelt, the art exhibition The Homeless Galery won the first Grand Prize at BEA World.
Sharing stories of homeless people and raising awareness of the reality in which they live was the aim of the art gallery created under bridges, in subway stations and on the street to mark the 30th anniversary of Hinz&Kunzt magazine, a publication known for its association with cases of social inequality.
It was with the exhibition The Homeless Galery - which presented 30 life stories of homeless people transformed into 30 works of art - that Hinz&Kunzt won the top prize at BEA World.
Hinz&Kunzt spoke to 30 homeless people in the city of Hamburg, Germany, and heard their life stories and how they survive on the streets in a context of economic and social crisis.
In a second phase, all the shares, which lasted an hour each, were converted into moving pop-up works of art, using artificial intelligence.
The result was exhibited in 13 locations on the streets of Hamburg, in a kind of open-air gallery, also without a fixed home, just like the people it was intended to honor.
Through works of art displayed under bridges and in subway stations, The Homeless Galery gave visibility to a reality of people who often end up being invisible to society.
