Porto is now the company's second destination in Portugal.

Emirates landed in Porto on July 2nd for the first time, starting the company's service in northern Portugal. The city will be linked to Dubai four times a week. The Boeing 777-200LR was received at Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport with the traditional water cannon. Speaking at an event at the airport to celebrate this new connection, Thierry Aucoc, Emirates Senior Vice President of European Commercial Operations, Russian Federation and Latin America, said: “Passengers in northern Portugal will now have a direct flight and a more convenient option for our hub in Dubai, from where you can easily access Emirates' global network, especially for destinations in Africa, Asia, Australia and the Middle East.“ He added that “the fascination with Porto, with its historical and cultural attractions, the world-famous Port wine production and the location on the Douro River, allowed the city to see an increase in visitors”.

“Our new service will therefore contribute to the economic growth of both Porto and the northern region.” José Luís Arnaut, Chairman of ANA Aeroportos de Portugal, commented: "Emirates' investment in this route is the result of a joint effort between the airline, ANA and all Northern Region tourism stakeholders. We are enthusiastic about this new flight, as it confirms the development and attractiveness of the region as a business and leisure destination.”
